Signs your AC needs repair

Most calls we get in summer start with one of these. If yours is on the list, call. If it is close to the list, call anyway.

  • Blowing warm air The system runs but the air is not cold. Usually a refrigerant leak, a failed outdoor unit or an airflow problem. What to check when your AC blows warm air
  • Won’t cool below 78 or 80 The thermostat is set low but the house never gets there. In July that is lost capacity, not a bad thermostat.
  • Water around the air handler A clogged drain line or a frozen coil. Florida humidity fills drain lines fast. Switch the system off to stop the drip, then call.
  • Thermostat is blank No power to the system: a tripped breaker, a float switch that shut the unit off because the drain backed up, or a failed transformer.
  • New noises or smells Grinding, buzzing and clicking point at motors and electrical parts. A musty smell points at the coil or the ducts.

  1. You call. A person answers. Tell us the symptom and your address. We book the first open window, same-day or next-day in most cases.
  2. Diagnostic An experienced tech tests the system, finds the cause and explains it in plain words. The diagnostic visit has a set fee; you hear it when you book.
  3. You approve the repair You get the price before any work starts. Many repairs finish in the same visit.
  4. We test and clean up We run the system through a full cycle, check the temperatures at the vents and leave the area the way we found it.

When a repair isn’t worth it

A system that is 12 to 15 years old, runs on R-22 (an older refrigerant that is no longer made) or is on its third repair in two summers is usually a better candidate for replacement. The in-home estimate for a new system is free. AC replacement and installation

What drives the cost of an AC repair

No two repairs cost the same. These are the things that move the number.

The part

A capacitor or contactor is a small repair. A compressor, blower motor or evaporator coil is a large one.

The refrigerant

Systems on R-22 cost more to recharge each year because the supply is recycled only. R-410A systems do not have that problem.

Warranty status

If the part is still under the manufacturer’s warranty, you pay labor, not the part. Bring your paperwork or we will look it up.

How much does an AC repair cost in Orlando?

Why is my AC blowing warm air?

Usually low refrigerant from a leak, a failed outdoor unit, or a frozen coil caused by poor airflow. Before you call, check that the thermostat is set to Cool and the filter is not clogged. If the air is still warm after an hour, switch the system off and call us.

Should I repair or replace my air conditioner?

Do you repair heat pumps and older systems?

Yes. Central Florida homes mostly run heat pumps or straight-cool systems with electric strip heat, and we repair both. We also keep older R-22 systems running while parts and recycled refrigerant are still available, and tell you plainly when that stops making sense.
